Online Degrees Becoming More Popular March 31, 2008

One of the biggest trends in education over the past several years has been the rapid explosion in the number of schools offering classes in an online format. What started as just a few schools offering online education has grown to become a huge growing industry, one of the fastest growing in the education market. There is no sign that the growth of online education is slowing down.
The true beneficiaries of online education have generally been young working adults. No longer is the potential student faced with the tough decision of attending college full time or working full time. Many of these young adults also have families which previously made the choice even more difficult. With the introduction of online education the advantages for potential students have become obvious.
Many of the online schools are accredited and this is something you should look for before deciding on taking online courses. The courses offered online are often the same as a university offers at their campus based schools.
The number of hours required to complete a degree program online varies from college to college but should not be significantly different than if you attended classes on campus. Virtually all of the online programs allow you to interact with the real instructor and school. You also have access to the facilities of the actual campus if it is located in your geographical region.
The types of degrees offered via online courses also has increased greatly over the past few years. Not only can you obtain an associate or bachelor’s degree online, but you can now study and obtain a masters or in some cases a doctorate via online learning.
Obtaining a college degree gives you increased or enhanced earning power as you advance through your career. You are far more likely to be looked on for promotion if you have earned your degree or are attending college to further your education than those who are not attending college or do not have a degree.
Online education has totally revolutionized the way people look at their educational futures. Gone are the days when you finished high school and had to decide on whether to get a full time job or attend college. Young adults now are free to do both, working a full time job while at the same time working towards their college degree by studying online from the comfort of their home.
The biggest group of people who have benefited from online education are those who have been working for a few years, have established themselves in their business to some degree, but who sense they have stagnated In prior years these people often found it necessary to quit their jobs and return to college full time. Now they can continue to work and attend college. It’s the best of both worlds.

Where Working Adults Earn Their Degrees March 17, 2008
Posted by admin in : Online Education , add a commentWhere working adults earn their degrees by Jim Mackey
Over the past 20 years, the popularity of taking courses online to earn associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degrees has skyrocketed. As most of our lives continue to grow busier and our schedules become tighter, the benefits of online learning have grown steadily more appealing.
The attraction of online learning began to spread with the launch of the University of Phoenix in 1976. Though other colleges preceded the University of Phoenix in offering online studies, the packaging and marketing of their courses ignited the ambitions of millions of working adults throughout the U.S. Today, people around the country set aside time from their busy lives to study and earn advanced degrees from the University.
How The University Of Phoenix Began
Economist Dr. John Sperling became interested in how the advent of the personal computer would impact the way intellectual capital was disseminated. He was also curious about the role it would play in our economic system. With several associates, Sperling conducted research into adult education. Specifically, he wanted to design strategies for delivering educational programs to working adults. He chose to study working adults because they sought advanced education that would complement their on-the-job experience and professional responsibilities.
Their research yielded data that implied a growing need for teaching programs that would cater to older students with busy lives. While other colleges focused most of their attention on young students (18 to 22 years of age), Sperling and his associates recognized that those with full-time jobs, families and other responsibilities wanted the opportunity to take classes, as well. In 1976, Sperling founded the University of Phoenix. Since that time, the University has spearheaded the growth in online learning enrollment. Today, the University of Phoenix is the largest private college in the country, boasting a student body of over 250,000.
Benefits Of Taking Courses Online
Sperling identified a need amongst the massive group of working adults in the U.S. They needed further education to advance in their jobs. They wanted to earn degrees that would give them an opportunity to compete for high-paying positions. Many wanted an education that would make a career change possible. The problem Sperling recognized was that working adults have little flexibility in their schedules to attend regular classes. Taking time off from the jobs was not a reasonable option. Plus, many of them had families that required them to be home.
Taking classes at the University of Phoenix allowed these students the flexibility to continue working at their jobs and devoting time to their families while earning a degree. Courses at the University required attendance at a weekly class (usually at night), completion of 1 or 2 weekly assignments and participation a few times each week in an online discussion forum. This flexibility has immense value to most working adults.
Choosing The University Of Phoenix
Taking courses and earning a degree while working full-time was nearly impossible years ago. Today, it’s a reality for millions of students. By providing a way for working adults to earn degrees on a schedule that suits their lives.

Online Degrees Change Education in The Modern World March 10, 2008
Posted by admin in : Online Education , 1 comment so farby Ken McCauley
The word is finally out: the educational world is changing – at a very fast pace. In your father’s day, you graduated from high school only to begin attending college – and you didn’t stop until you graduated (or dropped out). Only then did you begin your ‘adult’ life – a career and family.
All that has changed, of course. Today people may delay their entry into college for any number of reasons: pursuing military service, single parenting, perhaps just an unwillingness to pursue further schooling at that time. Many people just start their careers (or attempt to start them) by entering the job market straight out of high school.
Whatever the reason, at some point in the future, something happens. Something that causes them to realize that they need to further their education. But what can you do if you already have a full-time job, full-time bills and full-time child raising to do? You can’t just turn back the clock to a time when you were eighteen. You don’t have the time to go to classes everyday – continuously for several years – in order to get that degree. But do you know that the average university student is much older? What does that tell you? That more and more people are choosing to go back to school.
Enter the University of Phoenix. They understood, as few did at that time, that the educational landscape was changing and they needed to change with it. They introduced many innovative approaches to higher education, allowing people with very busy lives and commitments to reach their educational goals online. The folks at the University of Phoenix realize that many adults just don’t have the time to give to traditional on-campus attendance, so they have leveraged the Web – and they, via the Internet, bring their classes to you.
What types of courses and degree programs are currently offered through the University of Phoenix? Well, you can choose programs in Criminal Justice, Marketing, Management, Accounting, Business, E-Commerce, Health Care, IT (Information Technology), Nursing, Education – and new programs are being added all the time. All of their instructors hold Masters or Doctorate degrees.
You might be amazed, but it is true nonetheless: through the University of Phoenix, you can earn your degree in about 2-3 years! For those students who qualify, financial aid is available. They offer non-degree programs, as well as Bachelors and Masters degrees. Once again, and with your needs in mind, they hold classes on nights and weekends, and major assignments can be completed during the weekends – this minimizes any disruptions to your schedule during the week.
One of the very best things about working with the University of Phoenix is that when you contact them with more information, they will assign a real, live human being as your contact resource person. This person will answer any questions that you might have about the program, will help you to arrange payments for courses, and work with you to enroll in your first courses. They serve as a kind of “academic advisor” to help you get your educational pursuits into high gear.
So, my friend, let me ask you: Just what are you waiting for? You know, down deep in your heart, that you need more education – even your close friends and family have been telling you that, right? You have the need, certainly. The question is: do you have the drive – the desire to succeed – the need to improve yourself and your lot in life? If so, the University of Phoenix is the place to be!
