The University of Phoenix is the largest private university in the North American Continent. The University was founded in the year 1976 by Dr. John Sperling and is currently owned and run by the Apollo Group, Inc. The University is run in the manner of a for-profit organization and it specializes in the field of imparting adult education. The University was begun with the aim of aiding working professionals who wished to complete or further their academic records in their chosen fields while being able to continue their professional occupation as well.
